"IF WE COULD FIRST LEARN WHERE WE ARE AND WHERE WE ARE GOING, WE WOULD BE BETTER ABLE TO JUDGE WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO DO IT."

ABRAHAM LINCOLN

Master of Bacteriology (MS)

School of Science and Engineering
Atlantic International University

The Master of Bacteriology (MS) program objective is to help students develop a strong understanding of the scientific method and to provide the opportunity to obtain superior training in microbiology. The Master of Bacteriology program is offered online via distance learning. After evaluating both academic record and life experience, AIU staff working in conjunction with Faculty and Academic Advisors will assist students in setting up a custom-made program, designed on an individual basis. This flexibility to meet student needs is seldom found in other distance learning programs. Our online program does not require all students to take the same subjects/courses, use the same books, or learning materials. Instead, the online Master of Bacteriology curriculum is designed individually by the student and academic advisor. It specifically addresses strengths and weaknesses with respect to market opportunities in the student’s major and intended field of work. Understanding that industry and geographic factors should influence the content of the curriculum instead of a standardized one-fits-all design is the hallmark of AIU’s unique approach to adult education. This philosophy addresses the dynamic and constantly changing environment of working professionals by helping adult students in reaching their professional and personal goals within the scope of the degree program.

Important: Below is an example of the topics or areas you may develop and work on during your studies. By no means is it a complete or required list as AIU programs do not follow a standardized curriculum. It is meant solely as a reference point and example. Job Description Master of Bacteriology

The basic job of a bacteriologist is to conduct research and observe the qualities, growth and composition of scientific microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and parasites. Bacteriologists are scientists who provide insight for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of bacterial infections in animals, plants and humans. Their careful research gathers information on how diseases are caused by these tiny organisms and how they behave as diseases progress. Bacteriologists also research how bacteria and other microorganisms react to change and substances such as vitamins, antibiotics, alcohol and sugar. Some conduct studies on what organisms can break down pollutants in food, water and the environment. Others develop vaccines, antibiotics and antiserums.

Skills Required for an Bacteriology

A person considering a career in bacteriology should have a great interest in performing intricate scientific research. Because a bacteriologist's specimens are so minute, it is important to be able to pay close attention to detail and be reliable and careful enough to avoid any outside contamination which could affect the validity of the results. Work must be performed with impeccable organizational skills, patience, persistence, precision and total regard for safety. Bacteriologists must be able to work well under the stress of long hours and strict deadlines.
