The Remarkable Journey of Eridania Rodríguez Peguero

Be Part of the Solution

A Dominican educator transformed her passion for values and communication into a national platform for change.

In a time when the noise of the world can often drown out voices of wisdom, kindness, and principle, there emerges a writer who is grounded in the belief that words — when rooted in values — can heal, teach, and transform society. That writer is Eridania Rodríguez Peguero, a proud graduate of Atlantic International University (AIU) and a rising author whose work is stirring important conversations in the Dominican Republic and beyond.

Rodríguez Peguero’s story is one of vision and resilience, of knowing that real change begins not with systems or structures, but with the individual — with what we choose to say, how we say it, and why we choose to speak at all.

The Power of a Voice, Nurtured by AIU

Eridania’s academic journey began like many others — with a search for deeper meaning and personal growth. Her experience with AIU enhanced the scope to do something big and unique. With the academic freedom that AIU gave her she could customize her learning journey. It helped her evolve further, where her values could be explored academically, and where she could build a bridge between theory and practice.

At AIU, the focus on individualized learning, interdisciplinary research, and social responsibility provided the perfect environment for her to dive into topics she felt deeply about: values education, meaningful learning, and ethical communication.
“AIU allowed me to define my own path,” says Eridania. “They encouraged me to think critically and act ethically — to connect my academic work with the needs of my community and my country.”

That connection would soon blossom into something far greater.

A National Stage for Her Ideas

Between 2022 and '23 school year, Eridania participated in a national writing competition which is sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD). It is an initiative focused on strengthening literacy and critical thinking in schools. Her essay, which tackled the urgent need for values education as a foundational element of social development, won top honors.

Her award included a RD$40,000 prize and the publication of her essay as part of a broader educational reform effort. But more importantly, it opened doors to greater visibility and influence in her country’s academic and educational landscape.

The Book: A Deep Dive into Learning That Lasts

Building on the momentum of her recognition, Eridania published her first book: The Importance of Effective Communication: 7 Steps to Achieve the Meaningful Learning.

This is not your typical educational theory book. Instead, it is a powerful, interdisciplinary reflection that explores the human experience from conception to classroom. Drawing from psychology, pedagogy, communication theory, and personal insight, Eridania argues that communication begins in the womb — with emotional and physical signals between mother and child.

“From the moment of conception, a fetus feels the effects of being accepted or rejected, loved or unwanted,” she writes. “This initial communication forms a pattern that can define how a person later interacts with the world.”

Eridania elaborated on the fact that the early emotional signals create the groundwork for future learning experience of individuals. Here it is important to condition our brain to that learning. She also believes that effective communication, when grounded in values like - empathy, respect, and responsibility, is the key to meaningful learning — a kind of learning that stays with us, guides our behavior, and shapes our ability to contribute to society.

Values Education: A Call to Action

Rodríguez Peguero is not merely theorizing. She is responding to what she sees as a growing moral and social crisis. As she notes in both her book and essay, counter-values like dishonesty, corruption, and selfishness have seeped into many layers of society. Without a strong commitment to values education — beginning at home and reinforced in schools — she warns that we risk raising generations disconnected from their social and ethical responsibilities.

She proposes a collaborative strategy that includes families, teachers, institutions, and political leaders. “It’s not enough to talk about values,” she says. “We have to live them, teach them through action, and reinforce them across every stage of life.”

Tied to the Global Agenda: The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals

Eridania’s message also resonates globally. Her work aligns with the sustainable development goal number 4 - Quality Education. It is a critical goal set by the United Nations which needs to be achieved by 2030. Eridania strongly believes that education is a basic human right. Through appropriate communication via proper channels, it can garner more support and thus impactful.

She emphasizes that quality education isn’t just about access to schools — it’s about what happens inside them: the conversations, the relationships, and the internalization of values that help students grow into critical thinkers and compassionate citizens.

AIU’s Lasting Impact

Eridania talks about her experience at AIU with high regard. She strongly believes that AIU has contributed immensely to her journey. She further highlights the university’s commitment to - lifelong learning, ethical leadership, and global citizenship as values that mirror her own mission.

“The structure AIU offers is unlike anything I had experienced,” she says. “It was empowering — not only intellectually, but spiritually. It reminded me that education must be human-centered if it is to have a lasting impact.”

A Legacy in Progress

Today, Eridania Rodríguez Peguero stands as a symbol of what’s possible when personal conviction, rigorous education, and a strong ethical compass come together. Her voice is one that challenges, uplifts, and builds — word by word, chapter by chapter, classroom by classroom.

She is a role model for students across Latin America and beyond — especially for those who dare to believe that writing, teaching, and ethical living are still some of the most radical acts of hope.

“I didn’t write this book just to publish something,” Eridania says. “I wrote it because I believe that if we can learn how to communicate effectively, we can also learn how to love, respect, and coexist — and that, to me, is the foundation of a better world.”
