His disciplinary diligence drove him to earn not one, but two Doctorates - a Doctorate of Law from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (Mexico) and a Doctorate of Political Science from the Atlantic International University (AIU) in the USA. At the AIU, he was able to choose a more global perspective on politics - governance, justice and human rights, which aligned with the university’s philosophy of academic freedom, self-directed learning, and education for an important purpose.
Alongside his studies, Velásquez conducted Doctoral study in Philosophy, at San Marcos National University, and prepared study in Constitutional Law, Transnationality and Law Production - at the University of Vale do Itajaí in Brazil.
