Religion and Pacifism
This lecture explores how the world’s major religions understand and promote peace, nonviolence, and the moral rejection of war. It examines the theological, ethical, and historical foundations of pacifism within Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and other faith traditions. The lecture also considers how religious pacifism has shaped modern peace movements, influenced political thought, and responded to challenges such as just war theory, terrorism, and social injustice. The session invites reflection on whether true peace is achievable without violence—and how faith communities today can act as agents of reconciliation in a conflicted world.
