I am writing this letter as part of my graduation process to reflect on my experience during my
academic journey at Atlantic International University (AIU).
Enrolling in the Master of Science in Sustainable Urban Planning and Management at AIU
has been a transformative chapter in my personal, academic, and professional life. The flexibility
and self-paced nature of the program allowed me to balance my academic pursuits with personal
responsibilities, which was especially important to me as a working professional residing in
Nigeria.
The AIU platform encouraged independent thinking, interdisciplinary learning, and a strong
sense of ownership over my educational progress. The emphasis on applied learning and global
relevance gave me the opportunity to explore complex urban sustainability issues from both local
and international perspectives. The design of the curriculum allowing students to tailor their
courses to their specific professional goals made my learning highly practical and deeply
rewarding.
One of the most valuable aspects of my time at AIU was the ability to engage in critical research
on vertical urban development, culminating in my thesis titled: “The Abraj Al Bait Towers: An
Evaluation of Sustainability and Vertical Urban Planning in Makkah.” This research not only
contributed to my academic growth but also sharpened my skills in policy evaluation, spatial
analysis, and urban design. It has positioned me confidently for future roles in sustainable
development, urban consultancy, and strategic planning.
The support from the academic and administrative teams at AIU, especially the consistent
encouragement from my tutors and advisors, played a vital role in my success. I would
particularly like to acknowledge the flexibility of the program, which accommodated both my
personal growth and professional development goals.
In conclusion, my journey at AIU has been immensely fulfilling. I am grateful for the
knowledge, values, and academic freedom the university instilled in me, and I look forward to
applying these tools toward making a meaningful contribution in the field of sustainable urban
development.
