Research Projects
Students enrolled in the Associate in Criminal Justice program at AIU are encouraged to regard research projects as an opportunity to synthesize theory based on challenges they will face in reality. All students will be able to engage in research regarding things such as crime prevention strategies, understanding the impacts of rehabilitation programs on juvenile detainees, understanding the ethical dilemmas and issues facing police and law enforcement, use of social media in increasing juvenile delinquency, and understanding how technology is used as best practice in law enforcement streamlining efforts. The program is designed around andragogy, therefore, each student can create a research project that showcases their interest on a topic relevant to their areas of consideration or profession while allowing them to achieve critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving capabilities while integrating scholarly research and academic inquiry into the growing discipline of criminal justice.
Publication – Students enrolled in the Associate in Criminal Justice program at AIU are invited to reflect on their own academic growth and professional experience through student publications. Articles, essays, or case studies, our students can publish their work in AIU’s college based academic programs, online journal, and community groups. Participation in criminal justice associate curriculum publication not only reinforced their academic pressure and writing skills, but also gave students the opportunity to share their perspectives on topics of importance in criminal justice reform, policing approaches, social justice, and crime prevention. The student journey with AIU’s Associate in Criminal Justice program is a unique experience as AIU is based upon an education model that revolves around andragogy. Andragogy focuses on the learner. Job Description
Graduates of the Associate in Criminal Justice program at AIU will be ready to pursue employment opportunities at the entry level within the justice system and its related areas. Students will gain the knowledge and be prepared for work in fields related to criminology, law enforcement, corrections, and legal process and will be well-equipped to think of career options as police officer; corrections officer; probation or parole officer; security specialist; private investigator; paralegal assistant; victim advocate; and court clerk.
In this program, students will learn knowledge with respect to criminology and law using a legal process and will be able to find lessons that can translate to other well-paying employment opportunities which include community services; public safety; and aspects of private security. AIU welcomes motivated learners to apply for the Associate in Criminal Justice program if they want to start or enhance their academic journey in justice studies. Sometimes (with rare exceptions), applicants will need a high school diploma or GED or something comparable and applicant verification (completed application form and proof of identification). Since AVU has an andragogical, distance learning model, applicants should also display self-motivation, personal goals, and potentially, a gridded readiness for studying independently. However, students who already have academic and professional experience are (with certain entities possibly) only able to transfer completed coursework through credits – as most credits depend on what has been completed. Students for corrections management may use their prior experience for transferring to credits to accelerate their program and start from where they learn the most.
