The course examines Andragogy and Distanced Learning as two separate body of knowledge, outlines how adults learn on a flexible schedule and with some form of technology, outlines the principles of learner autonomy, learner motivation and learner-centred instruction, emphasises various ways (strategies) that educators can effectively communicate and connect with learners in an online format.
From these three principles and their connection to adult learning, the course then addresses Four Modern Components (digital tools to assist learners in completing their coursework, instructional design (analogy), and assessment tools to evaluate at the end of a course) needed by educators to successfully support adult learners. Based on this integration of theory with the actual application of skills needed to teach adults using a combination of theory/practice will enable graduate students to develop courses that are effective, inclusive, and provide an opportunity for an individual adult learner to progress through their studies.
