Publication – As part of an Andragogy-based curriculum, Associate Metallurgy students enrolled in the Associate in Metallurgy program will create a journal/periodical where they will communicate their scholarly and industry-related activities. Through the publication of case studies, technical reports, research results/discoveries, and/or metallurgy associate degree analytical articles on topics relevant to metallurgical-related activities or industrial applications, students will develop professional writing, analytical, and communication abilities as well as develop confidence in their ability to disseminate metallurgical information to both metal processing education academic and industrial communities while encouraging their involvement in research and innovation as well as continuous improvement and education.
The attachment to the Associate Degree in Metallurgy contains a full portfolio that documents all of the learner’s academic progress and competencies that were developed through an andragogical distance education environment. Through this document, students are able to develop a compilation of their most relevant work which includes applicable course work, research projects, technical reports, analytical evaluations, and reflection papers that illustrate the understanding and application of metallurgical fundamentals to the professional world.

Each year AIU organizes graduation ceremonies where the students can assist and share their experiences with fellow students and academic members Participation in the ceremony is optional, the day’s events include conferences, research presentations, group meetings, networking, lunch and formal dinner.

Supported by an andragogy framework and distance learning format, students will be assisted with various aspects of career planning including job searches, cover letters, resumes, interviews, and job exploration in the metallurgical aspects of manufacturing, materials testing, mining, and industry. By connecting the student’s educational objectives with the appropriate career path, students will be equipped to make sound decisions on their education and career advancement, and will have the confidence to successfully enter or advance in the metallurgical and materials science industry.
Students will learn the processes and skills to be successful in a variety of positions within the metals and metallurgical industries. Graduates can be employed in many different Associate Metallurgy jobs that use their knowledge of metals and alloys and the industrial processes that support basic operation, quality assurance and metallurgy associate degree research related to manufacturing and its related industries.
Student Practicum experiences (hands-on learning) are provided by enhanced tools and technology as part of the Associate in Metallurgy program offered through Online Learning.
