Human Rights and AIU Pledge

Human Rights and AIU Pledge

Human Rights and the AIU Pledge are central to the AIU philosophy and mission. They are included in the university mission statement defined in 1998. MISSION: to be a higher learning institution concerned about generating cultural development alternatives in order to lead to a more efficient administration of the world village and its environment. We aim to do this by exerting human and community rights through diversity with the ultimate goal of the evolution of the world.

The AIU Pledge is a commitment witnessed by fellow students. By taking the Pledge, you make a commitment to do everything in your power to implement a sustainable solution to a key problem(s) that you identify in your community, industry, country, or the world. By identifying your unique and unrepeatable talents and skills while adding and complementing those which you lack during the academic program to then empower them to bring to bear such solutions sustainably that respects Human rights. The open curriculum design and andragogic program at AIU grants the academic freedom to facilitate such a pledge within the framework of a credit based academic program.

Education is a Human Right

The article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Right states that:

  1. Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.
  2. Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. It shall promote understanding, tolerance and friendship among all nations, racial or religious groups, and shall further the activities of the United Nations for the maintenance of peace.
  3. Parents have a prior right to choose the kind of education that shall be given to their children.

The statement of this article is key to the development of AIU’s mission, having an intrinsic relationship, that for all AIU members is the core, allowing us, “Be a higher learning institution concerned about generating cultural development alternatives in order to lead to a more efficient administration of the world village and its environment. We aim to do this by exerting human and community rights through diversity with the ultimate goal of the evolution of the world”.
