Reprogram your thinking and achieve success: The 8 keys from Brad Jacobs' book

Everyone talks about success, but do they really know how to achieve it? Success is not something that happens by chance; it is something much deeper than that; it is a mental construct. This is the central theme of the book by Brad Jacobs, a famous entrepreneur who has managed to create a “secret” formula that has led him to sell maps worth $23 billion in profits for his companies.

According to Jacobs, the real driving force behind the personal growth we all crave lies in the ability to reconnect what we do with success, failure, and our mindset. Therefore, today you will learn the eight keys provided by this incredible example of leadership, which will allow you to chart your path to success as an entrepreneur. This experience, far from being a model only for millionaires, offers resources that can be applied in the professional, academic, and personal spheres of anyone who has a vision and is committed.

What are these 8 keys to success?

1- Act boldly and differently: This is something Jacobs himself affirms: success rarely comes with guarantees. Waiting for all the conditions to be right only leads to inaction. Instead, you must act despite the uncertainty. That mindset is very similar to the entrepreneurial spirit.

You can start a project without thinking too much about the outcome, but what is certain is that along the way, you will learn and have valuable experiences. Courage is not born from the absence of fear, but from the ability to move forward despite everything.

2- Ask better questions: One of the most distinctive habits of successful people is their ability to question everything around them. Jacobs pointed out that many of the best decisions come from well-asked questions. Instead of simply thinking, “How can I make money?”, you could turn it around and start thinking, “What is the problem that I can solve and have an impact on?” This simple change can make your goal go from simple to meaningful.

3- Reduce complexity: In a world exposed to too much information, the ability to simplify information becomes vital. Great leaders are not those who complicate things that are already complex, but those who are able to transform them into something understandable.

Jacobs maintains that simplicity is often a sign of mastery. It means focusing on what is essential and leaving out all the noise in order to communicate clearly.

4- Keep learning constantly: Success is not only linked to the knowledge you have already acquired, but also to your willingness to unlearn what is not useful. The reality behind the stagnation of many professionals is that they continue to apply formulas that worked in past contexts rather than those they find themselves in today. The entrepreneur argues that unlearning allows one to become more adaptable, innovative, and, above all, avoid that dreaded stagnation.

5- Don’t freeze in chaos; be able to act: Situations that generate instability and moments of crisis can become hidden opportunities if viewed correctly. He suggests that chaos should not be a paralyzing agent, but rather an activator.

Learning to make decisions in times of uncertainty is more than just a managerial activity; it is a daily necessity in a world that is constantly changing.

6- Never stop looking for the right fit: What we call excellence does not depend on fitting perfectly into any space, but rather on finding the ideal environment in which to put down roots and develop. He explains that failures do not always occur because of a lack of talent, but because of being in the wrong place for each person. This search applies to various contexts, whether it be work, study, or vehicles that require self-evaluation.

7- Don’t hold back when building relationships: Connecting with other people is also important for our development and an essential part of success. He points out that relationships should not be accidental, but rather strategic and, of course, authentic.

Surround yourself with people who inspire, challenge, and support you in whatever way necessary. These types of relationships can make the difference between an idea that fades away and an idea that thrives.

8- Be true to your vision, not to trends: Thinking long term is a very powerful quality and one that is widely emphasized by the author. He recommends building from within and not getting carried away by the trends of the moment.

This requires conviction, patience, and clarity to achieve your goals, which is not common in a society obsessed with immediate results.

A true success story: The great transformation of Starbucks

When it comes to examples of how an innovation-focused mindset can succeed in a company, Starbucks is a case in point. In early 2000, the company was facing market saturation and poor service quality. Howard Schultz, its CEO, made the bold decision to temporarily close thousands of stores and use that time to retrain baristas. “‘We are taking some time to perfect our espresso. A great espresso requires practice. That’s why we are dedicating ourselves to perfecting our art,” he said in an interview with Business Insiders.

This decision was criticized by many people at first, but it reflects several of Jacobs’ principles: acting courageously, unlearning old habits, and focusing on the vision of quality. All of this ultimately positioned the brand at the top and consolidated it globally.

Apply these 8 habits in all areas of your life.

As was stated before, this is not something that only applies to great entrepreneurs; if used correctly, it can even be an everyday ally. Whether in entrepreneurship, where it fits perfectly with learning to simplify the complicated, or acting with courage.

Self-directed learning, such as that faced by many adult learners, can benefit from asking better questions and staying calm when everything seems chaotic.

In family life, which is a great example of where intentional relationship building and finding the right fit can be applied. Conscious work on close bonds, improved communication, and aligning daily routines is the key to healthy mutual growth.

Every facet of your life is fertile ground in which you can sow these key points. Ideally, you should adapt the principles and not focus on replicating them as if they were an automated system. The idea is that growth should be an integral part of the way we live, work, and relate to each other.

The pursuit of success is not without mistakes.

It is completely normal that in the midst of this search, setbacks occur, not because of a lack of talent or resources, but because of errors in perception and focus. The most common mistake is to think that success is the same as external validation.

Many find themselves chasing titles, profits, or simply recognition, without pausing to consider whether this is aligned with everything else, such as their values or personal aspirations. This type of superficial success is often fleeting and leaves a feeling of emptiness.

On the other hand, another common mistake is resisting change and clinging to a single way of seeing, thinking, and acting, which greatly limits growth. Procrastination disguised as perfectionism also has a negative impact, as does waiting for the “right moment” or for things to be under control before taking action. Finally, underestimating the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people or not seeking feedback can limit learning and reinforce unproductive patterns.

Changing the idea, the way we visualize success, is not something that happens instantly; rather, it is a continuous metamorphosis. The tools provided by Brad Jacobs invite us to live with greater purpose, clarity about what we want to do, and the courage to face whatever is necessary.

You don’t need to be a great entrepreneur to start thinking and acting this way; all you need is the will to grow and contribute. Every step taken and every decision made consciously can be the differentiating factor that gives you the momentum you need. Always remember that leadership does not always have to go hand in hand with a position, but rather with the willingness to evolve, learn, and build each day with purpose.
