The associate of nutrition science is established to provide students with an understanding of the basic concepts of human nutrition, health, and wellness. The program will investigate how nutrients impact the body, the relationship between diet and the prevention of disease, and how nutrition will help promote healthy lifestyles throughout one’s life.

Coursework will cover food science, menu preparation, how the body uses food for energy (metabolism), public health nutrition, and the assessment of nutrition. By studying the science of nutrition and applying that knowledge, students will build skills necessary to assist others in achieving a healthy and nutritious lifestyle as well as in making informed choices regarding food consumption. This program also builds the foundation for students who wish to pursue advanced degrees and/or areas of employment in nutrition, healthcare, wellness, and community health education.

Thesis & Research Defense Process

A typical associate-level program will focus primarily on foundational skills and hands-on project work rather than requiring lengthy thesis papers; however, some students may be able to do a research project (based on their interests) or a capstone project that relates to their area of interest within the nutrition field during this time period. 

In doing so, students will be involved in identifying a nutrition topic, conducting research on that topic, analyzing their findings, and developing evidence-based recommendations and/or solutions to address the issue. Students also demonstrate their wellness education knowledge and understanding of nutrition topics, research methodologies, and critical thinking skills when they present project materials and/or engage in the academic discussion of their project’s success or failure. The completion of an associate degree with these skills prepares the individual to pursue additional professional public health study as well as greater career opportunities within the fields of health and wellness.

Admission Requirements

AIU promotes admission into their Associate of Nutrition Science program in such a way that it is accessible. AIU will generally require that applicants have completed high school, or an equivalent secondary education credential. The admissions process may consist of submitting supporting documents (e.g. the applicant’s academic record) and other relevant background information. AIU evaluates each applicant individually based upon their accomplishments in terms of education and degree(s) earned; the applicant’s personal goals; the applicant’s motivation to pursue an academic program in nutrition/health sciences.

How to Apply ?

AIU has an easy-to-use process for applying for their Associate of Nutrition Science Degree. A person interested in this program completes an online application that includes providing academic, biographical data, etc., and after all completed applications are received by the Admissions (AIU) office an Admissions Representative will assist applicants with selecting an Academic Advisor for discussions of the Applicant’s Academic Goals and an Individualized Plan of Study. Also, the Admissions Department assists students who are interested in applying to this program through the application process in establishing careers that are primarily focused on Nutrition and Health Sciences.

Associate in Nutrition Science is an associate degree from an accredited institution.
