Thesis Defense

The culmination of the Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree program offered by AIU consists of a thesis defense where each student presents his or her research project (research paper) for evaluation by an academic committee. The thesis defense serves as an opportunity for students to demonstrate their mastery of major criminal justice theories, methodologies for conducting research, and the ways in which their research can be applied to the real world through the lens of criminal justice.

In addition to presenting findings, students must clearly explain how they arrived at the masters in criminal justice  findings, justify their conclusions, and answer questions posed by the committee regarding their research as it relates to criminology, law enforcement, forensic science, corrections or justice policy, as applicable to this program.

To qualify for admission to this program at Atlantic International University (AIU) generally requires that the applicant has an acceptable undergraduate degree or equivalent from an institution of higher learning; however, in lieu of formal academic qualifications, some applicants might also qualify through work-related experience in a relevant field. All applicants will submit acceptable educational credentials (academic transcripts), an application form that is complete and includes an original statement of purpose with all areas of interest, and evidence of educational and career goals. In addition, the Admissions Committee may request evidence of additional support documentation, such as resumes/CVs, letters of recommendation, and proof of identification, to enhance the respective applicant’s submission. AIU uses a flexible, student-centered admissions policy; therefore, all applicants are evaluated holistically in an effort to make higher education available to all qualified applicants from varying academic/professional backgrounds.
