The primary purpose of research projects in the Postdoctoral Program in Chemistry at Indiana University is to provide postdoctoral scholars with an opportunity to conduct a combination of independent research and an emphasis on real-world applications in their area of chemistry.
Through the use of a distance learning framework that is developed based on the principles of andragogy, postdoctoral researchers will develop and implement advanced research projects that have a direct impact on solving scientific, industrial, environmental or societal issues. As a result of the emphasis on these areas of focus, the researchers will also generate new, innovative ideas and integrate various fields of study into one cohesive research project. The focus of the program is on creating publishable research, patents and real-world solutions while allowing the researcher to maintain complete academic freedom and do this in an environment that facilitates global collaboration.
Publication – The Postdoctoral Research Program in Chemistry at Atlantic International University supports postdoctoral scholars to convert their research findings into high-quality peer-review publications in the field of chemistry. In an andragogy-based distance-learning model, postdoctoral scholars will receive structured support and guidance for writing their articles and selecting the appropriate journals for the submission of their written materials as well as for understanding the process of peer review and ethical authoring in the community.
By emphasizing the importance of publishing, postdoctoral scholars not only enhance their academic credibility but also provide the global chemistry community with the opportunity to publish their original research and create additional avenues for scholarly contributions in the form of research articles, and other related types of published materials, including conference papers and interdisciplinary outputs.
Through the Postdoctoral Program in Chemistry at Atlantic International University (AIU), students will have an experience that is characterized by academic freedom, the ability to explore one’s own intellectual development and engage in research that is specific to them personally. Students enrolled in this program through AIU’s andragogical approach to distance learning will have the opportunity to create their own individualized research plans, while simultaneously being connected to an International community of Chemists, Scientists and Researchers, as well as Industry Professionals.
AIU’s Postdoctoral Program encourages a student-centered learning environment that is nurturing, but also provides the opportunity to learn in an independent manner while providing the opportunity for Advanced Chemical Research, Interdisciplinary Collaboration, and Real World Problem Solving, which enables Scholars to create high-quality research, develop professionally, and contribute meaningfully to Scientific Innovation, free from Geographical or Institutional Limitations.
The Community and Social Impact component of AIU’s Postdoctoral Program in Chemistry emphasizes that the application of advanced chemical research can solve many existing social and environmental challenges. Through the use of distance education and a focus on adult learning (Andragogy), Postdoctoral Scholars are encouraged to engage in activities that create social value such as community service, sustainability projects, public health research, environmental protection, and collaborations with companies to develop solutions that benefit society.
The integration of scientific innovation with ethical responsibility and global awareness will enable researchers to make contributions outside of academia by supporting community needs, issues related to public policy, along with developing solutions to enhance human quality of life; to promote sustainable development; and to contribute to the ongoing progress of human society at a global level.
