This study explores the critical role of usability in the successful implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) within Zimbabwe’s healthcare system. Despite the potential of EHRs to streamline operations, reduce paperwork, and enhance real-time data access, numerous challenges hinder their effective use. These include system design flaws, inadequate training, connectivity issues, and high staff turnover. The paper highlights existing efforts to train healthcare workers and improve infrastructure, alongside recommended strategic interventions such as comprehensive mentorship programs, policy reforms, and stakeholder engagement to boost usability. Emphasizing a systems-thinking approach, it advocates for tailored solutions addressing contextual challenges. Ultimately, improving EHR usability is essential to realizing its full benefits for healthcare efficiency, workforce wellbeing, and patient outcomes in low-resource settings.
