Duncan Eric, Doctor of Educational Administration

Duncan Eric, Doctor of Educational Administration
April 29, 2022

I enrolled at Atlantic International University on January 9, 2019, approximately 9 years after completing my Masters at the University of Ghana. I had commenced on a journey that I knew would be challenging but yet beneficial in the long run. I also realized then that I would combine my studies with work and ofcourse, manage conflicting priorities.Eventually the term began and I was given a timeline of 30 days (i.e. monthly) to submit my assignments. I had to read each assignment that I was given with understanding and was required to answer questions about the book/article that I had read. At other instances I had to relate the article to real life situations and apply critical thinking.Reflecting now on the years past, I can remember an interesting experience that I had with my Academic Advisor in 2020. He taught me about referencing in the Bibliography. The format he insisted I follow was:1. Author’s name2. Title of Publication (or the title of an article if it’s a magazine or encyclopedia)3. Date of Publication4. Place of Publication5. Publishing CompanyFurther to the aforementioned, whenever I submitted a research assignment, my professor would meticulously check my bibliography for mistakes; should he find the slightest of mistakes, he would ask me to resubmit with corrections made. Several times this happened and I had to resubmit, however with reservation or dissatisfaction. Notwithstanding, that exercise has made me a better person. I am now concerned about details in the Bibliography section whenever I do research. I am concerned about the chronological order and whether the references follow the acceptable standard. I also ensure that in-text citations are also captured in the Bibliography.Combining work with school indeed is stressful and not a child’s play, but at AIU, I learned how to plan my study time without contravening my work hours. For example, after work I trained myself to read/study for atleast an hour and a half/at most 2 hours. On weekends, I utilize Saturdays and rest on Sundays. My adaptation to such a routine enabled me to submit assignments on time.At Atlantic International University, I often get inspired by quotes such as :. “The only stable state is the one in which all men are equal before the law” or “Stay on the path of exponential growth. Your good work will be honored by family, friends and the community” and AIU wants you to be unique and unrepeatable.”Indeed, I have had difficult times but at Atlantic International University, there is no challenge which is unsurmountable. I deferred my program of study in 2020 but the constant follow ups made by Dr Edward Lambert encouraged me to continue my academic sojourn against all odds and my adherence to him has made me a WINNER today!!THANKS TO THE ATLANTIC INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY for being a part of my success TODAY!ERIC BURPHY DUNCAN
