Atlantic International University is exceptional in its way of conducting andragogy and long-distance learning. Of course, my learning experience with AIU has been a little bit challenging, more stressful in peak periods yet exciting and rewarding. My endlessly sleepless nights were sometimes unbearable. No much time for socialization and hobbies. Being a busy professional with high workloads so often, I have had hard time in submitting assignments on due date. My life balance already seriously destabilized by the workload has been exacerbated by this new learning adventure. But with supporting, hands-on, and top-notch tutors and advisors, the workload has been alleviated both at workplace and in my learning journey. Over this tough and hard time, I came to notice that by focusing on the end result with solid motivation could provide energy and inner stimuli to overcome challenges and keep going. That was the clue. Nothing could drive me off track my degree. The originality of AIU is a self-made program designed for the student by the student along with the advisor using appropriate learning materials to reach out one’s utmost potential. Best, the flexibility in tuition payments and the large array of the online resources make it easy and accessible for adults and workers to keep learning even if self-discipline is crucial to meet the academic requirements and keep up the timelines. Most importantly, an ecosystem of committed staff at different levels is always available to guide throughout our learning journey, customized to meet our specific needs. But how could I get registered in this program? Back to my story, it was like a simple and funny joke that started on October 2012 in Nouakchott with JaimeRotlewicz, Dean of Admissions, while I was in detailed mission in UNDP Mauritania Country Office for three months. Very hesitant and even reluctant at the beginning, I became more and more interested in the program as communication went on with Mr. Rotlewicz. Result-oriented and persuasive on the phone, this talented communicator started calling me Doctor, precociously. Needless to say that this appellation tapped on my pride and brought out my dormant feeling. The decision to get registered in the program came out immediately. First and foremost, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Rotlewicz then to my tutors Ofelia Hernandez and Edward Lambert for their orientation and coaching. I extend my gratitude to the entire AIU team for its unvaluable support. Of course, I could not get to the finish line with this important milestone in hand without the technical support and guidance from Dr. Franklin Valcin and Dr. Angel Ranal, our dedicated academic advisors. Through this self-paced program and the opportunity to design our own curriculum to reach our professional aspirations and goals, I come to the conclusion that AIU adds important value to our lifelong learning journey and therefore is recommendable to every worker in developing countries. AIU paced-program is adapted to wherever people are struggling to invest in their future and to lift up their performances to meet the development challenges of the 21st Century. As said above, having participated in that Program which started on October 2012 in Mauritania and will end, via Chad, very soon in USA was quite a dream. Now, this dream comes true and is a great accomplishment in my life. With my PhD in hand thanks to AIU, along with my previous degrees, all providing essential qualifications and reinforcing my academic background, I am now better equipped to think strategically, to manage capably, to administer wisely, to communicate effectively, and (above all) to lead humbly in the way that God would have us led.Sincerely,Hobah Rogoto
